I've been sitting on some CNC furniture design work for a while now (pun intended). Originally, I wanted to obtain a design patent, but that process requires me to invest a lot of time and research and can be costly to maintain. Assuming I did my paperwork correctly, I would then have to wait 18 months for the patent to go through. Does this process sound fun to anyone? The other major concern I have over registering a design patent is, there is no language (as far as I know) for the owner to share the design in a non-commercial function. All I really care about is that some large company doesn't start selling them without my permission. Today I've revisited the idea of releasing my designs online under a Creative Commons License. The CC license I'm thinking about using is Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported otherwise written as cc by-nc-sa.
